Recently, we have celebrated the highest ever wins and medals of Indian players at Tokyo Olympics, 2021. We have seen outstanding performance of players from all over the world.  When it comes to Olympics, each and every player give his or her best in the game with high hopes of winning medals and made their country feel proud in front of the world.

But we fail to pay attention, that it requires equal Mental and Emotional fitness as physical fitness to perform in any game and this has been proved in Tokyo Olympic, 2021 by the voluntary exit of Simone Biles, one of the USA’s most celebrated athletes. Simone Biles is considered as “Greatest of All Time”, she has won 30 World Championship and Olympics medals. Simone is an American artistic gymnast and she is just at the age of 24.

What has happened that the most celebrated athlete decided not to play in Olympics?

Why she took the decision to quit when opportunity was at the doors?

Suddenly, at Tuesday night during Olympic gymnastics meet before her game, she took things to a new level, she stepped back, assessed the situation and realized it would not be healthy to keep going now. On Wednesday, she pulled out of the all competitions only to focus on her mental well-being.

In her statement with tearful eyes she said, “I have to do what is right for me and focus on my mental health and not to jeopardise my health and my wellbeing.”

Then after she also spoke about her battle with Depression and Dealing with the demons.

She also said that Therapy helps to deal effectively with your mental health issues and gradually to defeat and overcome your mental health challenge. She is also seeking professional help and therapy to ensure her wellbeing.

Here, we must bring attention to one thing, first we need to accept the situation that we are facing related to mental health, be it depression, trauma or stress or any damn thing. We all are told to prioritize mental health for many years and one must choose it over friendship or relationship etc.

You may feel “WHY IT IS SO?”.…. The only reason to answer that question is, only one who is living with your brain and everything it throws at you, is “YOU”

Summing up “We have to protect our mind and body rather than just go out there and do what the world wants us to do.”- Simone Biles, and she has applauded for her courage in prioritizing mental health.

Key Takeaways:

Accept your mental challenge and Seek Therapy. Take it as easy as you seek help of your family physician or MD when you fall sick. It is ok to take professional help to ensure your Mental and Emotional wellbeing.
